Description
The KY-040 Rotary Encoder Module is a widely used incremental rotary encoder designed to convert rotational movement into digital pulse signals. By rotating the encoder knob, the module can detect both clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW) rotation and output corresponding pulses.
Unlike rotary potentiometers, the KY-040 has no mechanical rotation limit, allowing unlimited turns without wear-related accuracy loss. The module also includes a built-in push button switch, which can be used for resetting values, confirming selections, or triggering actions in microcontroller projects.
The encoder outputs two digital signals (Channel A and Channel B) with a 90-degree phase difference, enabling precise detection of both rotation direction and step count.
