🧠 How It Works / কীভাবে কাজ করে

The module has a U-shaped optical sensor. When an encoder or code wheel rotates through the sensor slot, the transparent and blocked sections of the wheel create pulse signals. Arduino or another microcontroller counts these pulses to calculate wheel speed or motor RPM.

💻 Arduino Test Code

Use this simple test program to count pulses from the speed sensor module.

#define SENSOR_PIN 2

volatile unsigned long pulseCount = 0;
unsigned long previousMillis = 0;
unsigned long interval = 1000;

void countPulse() {
pulseCount++;
}

void setup() {
Serial.begin(9600);

pinMode(SENSOR_PIN, INPUT_PULLUP);
attachInterrupt(digitalPinToInterrupt(SENSOR_PIN), countPulse, FALLING);

Serial.println(“Speed Sensor Test Started”);
}

void loop() {
unsigned long currentMillis = millis();

if (currentMillis – previousMillis >= interval) {
previousMillis = currentMillis;

noInterrupts();
unsigned long pulses = pulseCount;
pulseCount = 0;
interrupts();

Serial.print("Pulses per second: ");
Serial.println(pulses);

}
}

📌 RPM Calculation Formula

To calculate RPM, you need to know how many slots or pulses your encoder wheel gives per full rotation.

RPM = Pulses per second × 60 ÷ Pulses per rotation

Example:
If your encoder wheel has 20 slots and Arduino reads 100 pulses per second:

RPM = 100 × 60 ÷ 20 = 300 RPM

⚠️ Important Notes / গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নোট

• Encoder/code wheel is required for speed measurement.
• Make sure the code wheel passes correctly through the sensor slot.
• Keep the sensor aligned properly for stable pulse reading.
• Avoid strong direct sunlight on the optical sensor during testing.
• Use interrupt pins for accurate pulse counting in Arduino.
• For Arduino UNO, pin 2 or pin 3 is recommended for interrupt reading.
• Product PCB color, pin marking and component layout may vary depending on stock batch.
• This is a speed sensor module only, not a complete robot car speed system.
